Game overview

Andromeda5 is a fully 3D MMO browser game recently released by XS software. The game allows you to travel through the depths of the universe and explore different galaxies. The storyline progresses through main quests which even if not very exciting still make it possible to maintain a good gameplay flow and prevent one from getting overly bored.

In short, the game is a standard free MMO that has dozens of missions (although not very different from each other) which usually involve collecting such and such item or resources.

Graphically, the game is rather pleasant , thanks to the integration of the Unity graphics engine. The ambiance and feel of space in the game is done well, completely in the 3 dimensions. All in a single browser window. Andromeda5 is a good game, but due to some of its defects, it doesn't reach its full potential .

Full review

Andromeda5 was published by XS Software in early 2013, it's a space setting browser game in which you must amass resources, make your ship stronger and, of course, destroy other players .

You might think at this point that the game isn't anything special, but think again. Thanks to its Unity graphics engine, one can say the game is revolutionary because of its beautiful graphics, completely in 3D all through your browser window.

Getting Started

At the time of registration, in addition to the usual fields such as user name and password, you're asked to which fraction ( yes, fraction not faction ) you want to belong. The two choices are Vindexis and Regia Ales .

It's fair to say that the choices are a little useless because the game at no time mentions these “fractions” so your choice kind of leaves you wondering. After making your choice the game throws you into a tutorial based mission.

From the first moments of the game, there is something to be enjoyed , the presence of a rather decent story mode . Obviously, don't expect something very developed and deep with the game's Hollywood style scenarios, but it is a very appreciated addition, because in general an even average storyline is nonexistent in most browser games of this genre. Despite all this, the choice of missions to complete can be summed up in one word: repetitive.

There are a couple dozen missions available, but they are all based on the same objectives: accumulate resources or destroy enemy groups. However, as mentioned before, there are still overarching story quests which serve to forget about the monotony of the other missions, or tasks rather, needing to be completed .

A Little of Everything

The gameplay is pretty standard; you can move with the " WASD " keys ( or completely with the mouse) and with just a few clicks you can attack your enemies and collect resources.

What you'll very quickly realize is the wide variety of objects that you can find , buy, operate or equip. All it takes is a quick tour of the shop to realize .

Whether it be weapons, upgrades, or new ships, there's something here for everyone (and every budget ) .

Another rather nice option is the ability to create your own ammunition using the resources that you have. There's normal ammunition, ammunition with special features, and very powerful ammunition. There are types of ammo for the richer and the poorer players.

A Bit Complicated, Like the Name

Unfortunately, the shortcomings of the title must be noticed, even if there aren't that many.

The main pitfall of the game is the enormous download times. The game is fully 3D , we're aware, but sometimes the wait is pretty long and being that this is a browser game, it really shouldn't be. Fortunately, we have the possibility to download the game client in full, but it goes a little against the fact that Andromeda5 was definitely made to be a browser game .

In addition, another pitfall is the bugs involved with the on-screen text( although the developers have been releasing patches). Without mentioning the grammatical errors that suggest a bad translation software was used , one wouldn't expect the level of error in the game's written code . Character names also sometimes spaz out and turn into a jumbled mess of letters and code.

But the Eyes and Ears Want Excitement Too!

Now, about the game's graphical qualities thanks to the Unity game engine.

Every element of the game is in 3D and has everything necessary to blow away players, as long as they don't forget that this is still a browser game .

For obvious reasons, the level of detail is not the same as a game you would buy in a shop on a disc (yes, that stillexists ) but you cannot help but give credit to the Unity engine which manages to make every game that uses it look stunning.

The soundtrack offers the game music that fits well with the space setting but to be honest the tracks quickly become boring.

Conclusion

XS Software's production does have its fair share of good qualities. Its strong graphical presentation succeeds well with its space setting which even if not well though out, still improves the quality of the game.

Unfortunately, the missions are too repetitive and some of the game's shortcoming significantly lower its overall score. The game won't be exalted as a strategic MMO but is still a slightly above average game nonetheless.
