Browser-based crime gang mmo - Become a notorious mobster and represent your nation in this easy to play browser mmo
Vast Wars is a text-based browser game based on crime and criminal gangs. The objective of the game is to build your town into a criminal empire and train your crime lord to become a powerful leader through various activities such as gym training and sabotage.
The game features plenty of tasks and missions that are time-based to complete, offering rewards, experience and cash for you to advance your character. The game has a lot of players from different countries, and takes into consideration which country you play from which can lead to balance issues.
While the graphics are dated and the gameplay can feel repetitive, Vast Wars is still a decent crime browser game that is easy to learn and can offer small bursts of fun for those looking for a game to sink time into.
Vast Wars is a text-based browser game that lets you become your own Don of your city, which thrives on crime, theft and violence. In Vast Wars, it's every man and woman for themselves and their selected country, so there is no love loss between players and gangs. The objective of the game is to build your city into the biggest crime ring, while advancing your character to become the number one criminal in the world.
When players first start out, they are given several questions to determine what type of crime lord they want to be, and can choose between an evil crime lord, a corrupt police official or a cut-throat businessman. Each will have their own perks so pick wisely.
The most important aspect of playing Vast Wars is to constantly upgrade your character by hitting the gym
The town is yours and you're free to build it and commit as many crimes as you want in order to get rich
Once players have selected their character, the real fun begins. The in-game tutorial will show you the basics, and there's a lot to do in terms of character progression. Firstly, there is city building involved, where you have plenty of empty plots available to build several different buildings with cash. These buildings can provide jobs that grants your character cash and even a mall to buy clothes which has stat bonuses for your character to leverage when completing tasks, which will be talked about later.
The most important aspect of playing Vast Wars is to constantly upgrade your character by hitting the gym. Building a gym will allow you to train your character's attributes such as speed, strength and defense which are important if you want to be successful. Training, like other tasks and missions, requires real time to complete in addition to consuming stamina which replenishes, so there is a lot of waiting in between.
When it comes to the core gameplay, Vast Wars offers plenty of filler things to do, such as completing tasks in your city. Players can commit crimes and thievery on buildings in their city or against other players for cash and loot. The success of the task will boil down to how high your stats are from the gym training we talked about earlier.
While the randomness of the tasks are fun, the lack of variety and the variables for success becomes repetitive and slightly boring quickly, which isn't helped by the fact that most of the tasks and actions you make requires real time, and once you reach a high level, it can become very slow to progress.
Vast Wars also takes into consideration your nation of choice, as it groups all players in a nation into a single leader board. Therefore, if you play in a country that has loads of players, it becomes an immense grind and challenge to slowly ascend the ladder. However, the benefit is that you get to join crime gangs from your own country, which helps for communication and teamwork.
On the PVP front, Vast Wars is all about sabotage against other crime lords and their towns rather than outright warfare that involves armies and troops. Just like any other tasks or missions, players can sabotage each other by partaking in crime tasks that aims to steal cash from one another. The success of this will as usual, rely on how strong your character is, so be sure that you are well equipped to sabotage players that are on the same level or lower than you. If you are in a gang, PVP is even more enjoyable as you can co-ordinate crimes as a group without too much risk of failure.
When it comes to graphics and presentation, it must be said that Vast Wars does look dated and aged with its 2D graphics. If you can look past the graphics however, then you can appreciate that the game tries its best to include real images of items. For example, when shopping for clothes, the pictures used to represent the items are relatable, such as Nike sneakers and body wear.
Also, for fans of games such as Sim City, Vast Wars offers a similar sight thanks to it's town building, where after certain advancements, you can see your township come to life with people walking the streets and vehicles driving on roads. Unfortunately, these little effects do little to hide that the graphics overall is still an eye sore, especially when compared to other similar browser games.
At the end of the day, Vast Wars is a crime game that uses text and time-based gameplay to good advantage, and it can fulfill your needs if you're in the market for a city building crime game that is large in scale with lots of players. The core gameplay is filled in filler tasks and missions which is not ideal if you have short attention spans, but it does have enough progression for character building in the long run. Vast Wars is a decent crime game if you have the time for it.
